Fourth man sentenced for causing 50mph crash for cash after fleeing country

An outstanding defendant has been sentenced in absence for causing a collision on a busy A road, which saw an innocent motorist drive into the back of another vehicle at 50 miles an hour.

Zahid Hairan, 31 of Dryfield Road, Edgware, London, was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment at Inner London Crown Court on Thursday 13 October 2022. Hairan had been found guilty by a trial in his absence after he fled the country to avoid prosecution.

The outcome follows the sentencing of three of his accomplices in September 2021.

The crash for cash scam which involved all members of the gang inducing an innocent motorist into a collision on a busy Hertfordshire road, was done in an elaborate bid to fraudulently obtain nearly £50,000 in claims.
