What is Non-Insurer Membership?

Through our collaborative efforts Non-Insurer members form an invaluable part of the fight against fraud, supporting the wider insurance industry, insurers, and protecting honest customers.

Our Non-Insurer Membership is suitable if you are*:

  • An organisation that supports or works closely with Insurers that underwrite insurance products in the UK
  • A company who acts as a go between insurers and the public, or support insurers in other ways
  • A broker, aggregator, lawyer, third party administrator, loss adjuster, claims management company or other similar stakeholders.
    Are impacted by insurance fraud

Membership is available across different insurance product lines, and since our decision to broaden our membership, our membership includes policies that cover motor, life, travel, pet, health, liability, and marine policies to name a few.

How do non insurer stakeholders benefit from IFB membership?

Our Non-Insurer Members benefit from the same access as our Insurer Members, but they can only access data in relation to an existing Insurer Member.

For example, a law firm can support their client on a fraud case and use training we have provided to have a greater understanding of the fraud landscape, but they would be unable to conduct a search of the fraud data on a non-member’s behalf.

The same applies to brokers selling insurance underwritten by a non-member, they would be able to utilise training to help keep all their customers safe from fraud scams, but unable to check confirmed fraud data stored on the Insurance Fraud Register (IFR), and data on suspect fraud on the IFiHUB to adjust pricing (Insurer Members have automations in place to do this).

Our members have access to different levels of intelligence and alerts, ensuring they can make informed decisions quickly. This includes access to:

  • Confirmed fraud data stored on the IFR containing over 21,000 confirmed fraudsters records
  • Data on suspect fraud on the IFiHUB with over a ¼ million suspect entities

Resulting in nearly 200k searches and over 1,500 downloads from our databases. Together, these tools provide a powerful advantage in fighting fraud.

All members also benefit from the societal impact we have, knowing that every action we take aims to reduce insurance fraud, which protects the public and keeps costs down. We do this by:

  • Raising awareness of scams and educating about the consequences of committing fraud
  • Helping to maintain public trust
  • Offering people a safe and anonymous way to report insurance fraud concerns through our CheatLine reporting tool, which plays a vital role in the fight against fraud. Every year, we receive over 5,000 reports to CheatLine from the public, with nearly 70% resulting in actionable intelligence.

As a Specified Anti-Fraud Organisation, we have strategic partnerships with government agencies and regulatory bodies which is why our members see us as a trusted partner. By helping the wider insurance industry share data directly with law enforcement agencies, we provide them with critical insights into fraud trends and an enhanced understanding of the scale of fraud issues.

These partnerships are critical in disrupting fraudulent activity and securing criminal convictions. By tackling fraud in a joined-up way we can achieve our common goal of protecting customers and reducing costs associated with fraud.

In addition, we:

  • Facilitate operational working and intelligence groups to identify fraud threats
  • Organise forums, workshops and roundtables on specific fraud types
  • Host members only events
  • Provide networking opportunities with likeminded fraud experts

For more details, please reach out to our team who will be happy to talk through how membership will benefit your organisation directly.
