Carlisle Crash for Cash scammer faces further jail time
04 March 2019
Fraudster Mark McCracken who was already facing seven years in prison for orchestrating a string of Crash for Cash scams, has been sentenced to a further 18 months in jail. While his mum and sister have received suspended sentences for supporting his financial crimes.
"After an extensive investigation between IFB and Cumbria Police, we're pleased to see the outcome of today’s sentencing. We first became aware of Mark McCracken for his involvement in 'Crash for Cash scams', where he orchestrated a string of staged motor accidents, to profit from bogus insurance claims. It comes as no surprise that this elaborate activity operated through a support network of offenders and extended into wider crime, such as money laundering.
Today’s outcome demonstrates that our investigations can break the link in these criminal networks - fraudsters will be exposed for their crimes and brought to justice." - Stephen Dalton, Head of Intelligence at IFB.
